Sedation therapies
Nervous patients
The dentists at Dental Spa Solutions in Leamington Spa are used to looking after nervous patients and will do their best to put you at ease. They also offer a range of sedation therapies for those patients who need additional help to get them through an appointment.
Inhalation sedation
Inhalation sedation is a common method of helping nervous patients. It involves you breathing in a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen (also known as laughing or happy gas). This makes you feel pleasantly relaxed, and you will be conscious and able to co-operate with the dentist throughout. This form of sedation also uses relaxation and suggestion techniques, which means we will talk softly to you during the procedure, explaining what we are doing and what you will feel. Once the treatment has been finished, the effects of the gas mixture are quickly reversed by breathing in pure oxygen. There are no after effects.
Intravenous (IV) sedation
Intravenous (IV) sedation involves a small injection, usually in the back of your hand. This is not uncomfortable, and will quickly make you feel drowsy and calm. Again, you will still be conscious and able to co-operate with the dentist.
Afterwards you are unlikely to remember much about the treatment. We can administer a sedative with similar effects via a nose-spray which is particularly useful for patients who are anxious about needles and injections.
We can also administer oral sedation, either in tablet or medicine form. This has a similar relaxing effect, but it can last longer.
